The badges below light up from the record kept in this browser and nothing else. They're checked every time you finish a puzzle.

Tournament record
There is no leaderboard
This site ships static files only. There is no server holding anyone's record, so there is no way to compare — which is why there is no leaderboard. Saying so seemed better than filling in ranks that don't exist.
For the same reason these badges won't appear on your other devices. Clearing site data clears them. In a private window nothing is stored at all, and the game plays exactly the same.
If a time badge won't come
Quick Medium, Quick Hard and Quick Expert look at your best time. Come in under it once and the badge stays on, however slowly you solve afterwards. So playing the same difficulty repeatedly is the surest way.
When a time won't drop, it's usually because you're re-scanning the whole grid over and over. Hunting for the next move anywhere means re-reading all 81 cells each time. Look first at the row, column and box of the cell you just filled — often the next move is inside those twenty.
Expert finished and Quick Expert count the grade of the puzzle that was actually built, not the label you picked. Choose Expert and get an easier grid, and it's recorded at that easier grade — so picking the label and solving something easy doesn't earn them.
You don't need the badges
These are marks of where you've been, not targets. Chasing the month badge by forcing a puzzle every day lasts less well than solving when you feel like it. That's also why there's no way to revive a broken streak.
