A sudoku you play straight in the browser. Nothing to install, nothing to sign into, and your record stays in this browser only.
Why the hints were rebuilt
Most sudoku apps hint by filling in a cell. To someone who is stuck that is not help, it is a skip. If you never learn why that digit belongs there, the same wall stops you again.
So this one searches the techniques a person actually uses, easiest first, and tells you the reason before the answer. It also hints at candidates to erase — as much progress as filling a cell, and rarely explained anywhere. All thirteen techniques are laid out in how to solve.
How the puzzles are made
- They are built in your browser. There is no list of puzzles on a server, so you never get handed the same one twice.
- Each one is checked to finish by logic. A freshly dug puzzle is solved end to end by the hint engine; if it stalls anywhere, it is thrown away and another is drawn. No difficulty leaves you with a square you can only guess.
- The answer is verified to be unique. Every time a digit is removed, the puzzle is re-checked for a single solution and the removal is undone if a second one appears. A puzzle with two answers is not a sudoku.
- Difficulty is not the count of given digits. Some grids with 22 clues fall apart in a minute. The grade is the hardest technique the solve actually needed, so the label tells you what this particular board asks of you.
What this site does not do
- No accounts. No leaderboards either.
- Nothing is sent to a server. The puzzle you are on lives in this browser.
- No payments. Hints are not something you are made to ration.
Who runs this, and how to reach them
This site is run by one person. It goes by Play Sudoku, it is not a company, and it is not affiliated with anyone.
If a puzzle looks wrong or a hint is mistaken, say so below. The email address is not printed on the page because addresses put on pages get harvested — what you send is forwarded straight to the operator's mail.
